Initiated by Association Mimouna in partnership with the American Sephardi Federation, the Jewish Africa Conference has become a landmark platform dedicated to the preservation, promotion, and reflection on Jewish life across Africa.
The first edition of the conference brought together African leaders, scholars, and researchers to explore both the historical roots and contemporary realities of
Jewish communities on the continent. Widely recognized by international media, the event offered long-overdue visibility to African Jewish voices and cultures.
Building onthis foundation, the second edition, held on June 13th at the headquarters of the Policy Center for the New South in Rabat, Morocco, expanded the conversation to include diplomats, political figures, and religious leaders. Supported by partners such as the OCP Group, the Moroccan Jewish Museum of Casablanca, USAID, and others, the conference reinforced the importance of safeguarding Jewish-African cultural and religious heritage within a broader African and global context.
The third edition, held in Cape Town, South Africa, marked a powerful moment of continental and international dialogue, gathering participants from across Africa alongside leading experts on African Judaism from around the world. The conference fostered shared reflection on the past, present, and future of Jewish life in Africa and honored outstanding contributions to African Jewish heritage through the presentation of the “Moses the African” Award to individuals from South Africa, Tanzania, and Morocco.
Across its three editions, the Jewish Africa Conference has affirmed its role as a vital space for dialogue, recognition, and the celebration of Africa’s rich anddiverse Jewish heritage.
