ASSOCIATION MIMOUNA

Preserving Jewish-Muslim Heritage since 2007

What is Association Mimouna ?

A cultural non-profit association created in 2007 by young Muslim students willing to promote and preserve the Jewish-Moroccan heritage. The Association has since expanded these activities on a national level in order to engage in the education of the Moroccan youth about the Moroccan jewish heritage. This awareness is particularly achieved through the «Jewish-Moroccan heritage Days» and through educational activities designed for high school and graduate students. The name «Mimouna» symbolizes a common heritage of Moroccans. Traditionally celebrated at the end of Passover, Mimouna is a traditional Jewish Moroccan celebration. Jewish families often invite their Muslim neighbors Muslims who, among other things, bring bread to join the festivities. One of the founding principles of the Association is to reclaim the cultural diversity of Morocco through its history. In a context where intolerance and extremism are rampant, Mimouna, as a Citizen Patriot Association, would like to contribute to the preserving and strengthening of the plural Moroccan identity.

Words of the President

"In 2025, Association Mimouna will celebrate its 18th year of activity all thanks to the investments of a committed team, all driven by the same desire to safeguard and promote the Moroccan Jewish heritage. Association Mimouna strenght steems partly from the synergy of its team, and the values shared by the team. Association Mimouna has preserved the continuity of its work that started in April, 2007 in Ifrane within Al Akhawayn University, and since then took its takeoff from the student community in order to work with its young members on educating a wider audience on a national level. Since our genesis, Association Mimouna has overcome many challenges thanks to the addition, support and participation of all its members, but also thanks to the support of benefactors who believed in Mimouna's mission since its debut. For more than a decade, the devotion to promote and preserve the Moroccan Jewish culture, has enabled Mimouna, through its over 613 events organized in Morocco and abroad, to pass the torch of this heritage to the young generation."

Inspiration

Simon Levy

(1934–2011)

Simon Lévy, founder of the Jewish Museum of Casablanca, was a pioneer in preserving Morocco’s Jewish memory and a steadfast believer in Mimouna’s mission from the very beginning. With his wisdom and conviction, he guided and encouraged us, reminding us that heritage is a living bridge
between communities. His vision and unwavering support continue to inspire our work and strengthen our commitment to keeping this shared history alive.

Laziza Dalil

(1985–2024)

Laziza Dalil, our dear Vice President and head of communication, was one of Mimouna Association’s brightest lights. Dedicated, passionate, and endlessly creative, she poured her heart into every project, believing deeply in our mission of preserving and sharing Morocco’s Jewish heritage. Laziza was more than a leader; she was a source of energy and inspiration to all who worked with her. Her voice, her warmth, and her vision continue to guide us, even after her passing on October 10, 2024. She remains forever part of Mimouna’s story.
