Morocco Hosts the Arab World’s First Holocaust Conference

In 2011, Association Mimouna, in partnership with Kivunim, organized the first-ever Holocaust conference in the Arab world at Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane (AUI), a historic and courageous milestone. The event brought together survivors of the Shoah, Moroccan academics, and students to engage in open dialogue about one of humanity’s darkest chapters. It also highlighted the moral leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed V, who, during the Vichy period, refused to hand over Moroccan Jews to Nazi authorities and protected them under his reign. This groundbreaking conference marked the beginning of a new conversation in Morocco, one rooted in truth, memory, andcoexistence
